Search engine optimization is here to stay, and it will continue to grow. Ever since the late 90s when Google first happened on the web, people have been using all kinds of methods to rank highly and generate targeted traffic. It has all been an evolution which is due to the back and forth nature of web businesses and Google trying to deliver a good product. It all has to begin somewhere, and with this type of marketing you must completely grasp the basics. So if you're just starting out with SEO, then the following few basic tips should help you have a great start.

Two things you have to be aware of is what off-page and on-page SEO factors mean. The only way you will know what to do and get anywhere is if you understand the concepts. When you are doing each one, you will have to execute the procedures required as accurately and effectively as possible. Basically what this all comes down to is following what the search engines, like Google, want in order to rank. And all of this will only happen when you practice both on-page and off-page SEO perfectly.

The best way to get moving in the rankings is by seeking quality links for backlinking. It makes a big difference as to where your backlink is coming from because one quality backlink is equal to ten backlinks from a non-authority source. You should aim for a backlink from an authority site, but as we all know getting the right kind of backlinks for a website is important from the SEO point of view. But you have to do the off-page part if you want to get anywhere, and that is getting backlinks.

Now say, you wish to rank high for the term, "cheap bikinis". Now you know that there are hundreds of websites about bikinis and swimwear, and some are pretty well popular too. Yours might be different, but it can get stuck into the crowd of these bikini websites. You need to do something (and a lot of it) more than simple On-page SEO to stand out from the crowd. This is where link building comes in.

Of course you want to add a sitemap whether you have a static HTML site or of course a blog. What this little code does is helps out the search engine spiders when they crawl your site, and it actually helps your pages to get properly indexed. You will likely be using a blog platform such as Wordpress, and there is a great sitemap plugin available. There is an outside chance that you could not get totally indexed without a sitemap. You can find several different variations of the plugin, but they all basically do the same thing.

Some people and places are better for discovering more about SEO than others, so do your due diligence. You have to get to the point where you are competent in your own right, and then it is just moving forward.

Another thing is you cannot be averse to learning because that is the foundation for all of this. Do not shy away from the need to keep your efforts constant, but the rewards can make it definitely worth it to you. This will allow you to focus on the minute details and get the right while you're in the beginning phase.
